 | Dr. Götze, a native of Thuringia (Germany) studied mineralogy and geochemistry at Freiberg University of Mining and Technology and earned a PhD with a thesis on industrially used high purity quartz materials. Following a career in the glass and ceramics industry, he became a professor of Technical Mineralogy at the Technical University Bergakademie in Freiberg, Saxony (Germany). Dr. Götze is a life long mineral collector and agate enthusiast. As he worked on his doctoral thesis, he intensively looked at quartz and silica minerals, including agates. His work on agate formation includes numerous articles and a growing personal collection of worldwide agates. He writes, "Due to many contacts with collectors and my scientific work, I have the ability to see certain agate occurrences worldwide and to get an impression on the beauty of this specific 'product' of nature." |
